(Honolulu) − On Saturday, November 10, 2012, from 8 – 11 a.m., the City’s Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) and the Hawaii’s District 50 Lions Clubs will be working together to patch broken and uneven sidewalks around Honolulu Hale in preparation for this year’s Honolulu City Lights.
The work will involve volunteers from various Lions Clubs on Oahu and a crew from the DFM Road Division providing temporary patches to deteriorated sidewalks around the civic center grounds on King Street and Punchbowl Street.
Each year, Honolulu City Lights draws a large amount of pedestrians to the civic center area. By patching uneven and broken sidewalks visitors will enjoy a safer pedestrian travel around civic center grounds.
This event is part of the “Safe Sidewalks” program, a collaboration between DFM and the District 50 Lions Club. The program is in its third year of making heavily traveled areas safer. The hard working volunteers contribute greatly to the City’s need for temporary sidewalk repairs until permanent repairs can be scheduled.
