(Honolulu)—The Department of Parks and Recreation is teaming up with Outrigger Hotels and Resorts to host two free Hoop and Surf basketball clinics as part of the City’s “Get Active, Get Fit” initiative to encourage keiki to include exercise and recreation in their daily schedule.
The first clinic will be held November 20, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Palolo District Park gym. All participants must first pre-register at Palolo District Park. For more information, contact Recreation Director Tim Shepherd at 733-7363.
The second Hoop and Surf Clinic will be held in December at the McCully District Park gym (the date and time will be announced later). All participants must also pre-register at the gym. Please contact Punahele Crowell, Recreation Director, at 973-7271 for more information.
Players participating in the annual Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Hoop and Surf Tournament, including a number of NCAA Division II Women’s college basketball teams, players, and coaches, will be on hand to offer kids help with fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. The clinics will also provide an opportunity for players to interact with college-level coaches and players. Outrigger Hotels and Resorts will also award prizes to some participants.
