(KAILUA)– — The popular Kanikapila in Kailua music series continues in 2013 with the renowned Hawaiian quartet “Kaiholu” taking the stage for the Saturday, Jan. 19 performance from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the parking garage near Whole Foods Market in Kailua Town.
Kaiholu is an award-winning group of four talented musicians: Hanale Ka‘anapu on 12-string guitar, Trax Enos on ‘ukulele, Al Rowland Jr. on 6-string guitar and Mahealani Stillman playing upright bass. With its vibrant sound and full, rich harmonies reminiscent of the “Sons of Hawaii,” Kaiholu’s popularity has risen steadily over the years. In 2009, they took first place in the 25th annual Ka Himeni Ana contest.
“Showcasing the wonderful Hawaiian music of Kaiholu is a great way to kick off a new year of Kanikapila in Kailua,” said Terry George, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, which is marking 50 years of grant making in 2013. “During our special anniversary year, we will again feature some of the best-loved Hawaiian musicians.
Kanikapila in Kailua, which launched in May 2012 as a monthly program celebrating the music and culture of Windward Oahu, is sponsored by the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and created in partnership with Kawika Kahiapo, a noted Windward Oahu musician. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own chairs, grab food from their favorite Kailua eatery and sit back, relax and enjoy amazing local music.
Through its grant making, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation builds on the strengths of Windward Oahu communities by supporting the region’s rich cultural legacy, its youth and families, and its natural resources.
