(Honolulu)- − Today from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the Hawaii Government Employees’ Association (HGEA) in coordination with the City’s Department of Facility Maintenance will patch broken and uneven sidewalks in Downtown Honolulu to mitigate potential trip hazards as part of the City’s Community Sidewalk Patrol program.
Volunteers from the HGEA will apply temporary patches to deteriorated sidewalks on Mililani Street and portions of Queen Street, Merchant Street, Alakea Street, and Richards Street, makai of King Street. This area is frequently used by both Downtown business people and visitors. By patching broken and uneven sidewalks, pedestrians will enjoy a safer walking travelway.
HGEA has been involved with various community service projects statewide. This will be the first time that the HGEA will be participating in the City’s sidewalk maintenance program.
The hard working hands of volunteers help the City temporarily repair sidewalks until permanent repairs are completed. If your community group would like to participate in the City’s Community Sidewalk Patrol program, please call the Division of Road Maintenance at 768-3600.
