(Honolulu)– – The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) has honored Kentaro Nishino, M.D. and Kathleen L. Mah, M.D. as the 2013 Ke Kauka Po‘okela Outstanding Physicians of the Year.
This annual award recognizes physicians of the QMC medical staff who exemplify high-quality care, professional conduct and outstanding contributions to the medical field.
“We are honored to have ambassadors like Dr. Nishino and Dr. Mah who demonstrate the Queen’s mission of providing excellent patient care to the people of Hawaii every day,” said Art Ushijima, President of The Queen’s Medical Center. “On behalf of our Queen’s ‘ohana, we thank Dr. Nishino and Dr. Mah for their stellar service and continued commitment to our communities.”
Dr. Nishino, who received the award for Hospital Based Physician, is a Geriatrician and Hospitalist at The Queen’s Medical Center. He received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and a fellowship in geriatric medicine from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Nishino also serves as an assistant clinical professor in the department of geriatrics at the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Dr. Mah, who received the award for Community Based Physician, is an Active Staff Member and Medical Director of the Main Operating Room, Same Day Surgery, Urology, at The Queen’s Medical Center. She received her medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Mah is also an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine.
