(Kaneohe)– The first librarian of Windward Community College returned to campus this week as a donor to choose a bookshelf in the new Library Learning Commons for her plaque in memory of her daughter. What was a dream of retired WCC Head Librarian Catherine Wilson to see a spacious, modern library learning facility come to fruition in 2012, was underscored when she found the perfect place for her plaque. Catherine’s gift in support of the Library endowment allowed her to choose a bookshelf on the upper floor to honor her daughterʻs love of anthropology.
Also placing her plaque on a bookshelf was Windward Community College alum and longtime donor Barbara Kahana. Barbara has great aloha for the campus and the educational opportunities it afforded her when she came back to college as a ‘non-traditional’ student. Her support of the campus extends to not only the Library Learning Commons, but also a scholarship for WCC students in her name.
Former Chancellor Angela Meixell also made two gifts to the Library endowment; one in memory of her sister and another for her and her husband Timothy. Angela’s support of the general “reading-for-fun” section of the library is the location of her two plaques on the lower floor of the facility.
All bookshelf naming, as well as other permanent naming spaces within the facility, supports the Library Endowment. Funds from the endowment will enable the Library to maintain online research source materials, on-site reading and research materials, as well as operational needs such as computers and other learning equipment that 21st Century students utilize on a daily basis.
