(Hawaii)– From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Ira Dreyfuss with HHS HealthBeat.
An analysis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that most Americans don’t get enough physical activity.
The researchers looked at national survey data on aerobic activity such as jogging or brisk walking, and muscle strengthening activity such as weight lifting or sit-ups. About 50 percent did enough aerobic activity, and about 30 percent did strengthening activity, but only about 20 percent did enough of both.
CDC researcher Kathy Watson:
“Adults need at least two and a half hours of moderate aerobic activity, or one hour and 15 minutes of vigorous activity each week. Adults also should do muscle-strengthening activities at least two days a week.”
The study is in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
