(Hawaii)– From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.
Stressors like work and finances can cause anxiety. Anxiety happens when your reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected. Researchers found that meditation may help. They taught participants a simple form of meditation, mindfulness.
Fadel Zeidan is a research fellow at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, School of Medicine.
“We found that meditation significantly reduced anxiety levels in every session that participants meditated. Some participants dropped as much as 39 percent.”
Meditation sessions were short – showing their potential to have immediate effects. Zeidan suggests trying this technique if you experience daily anxiety.
The study in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
