(Honolulu)– Kaiser Permanente Hawaii unveiled its new Koolau Medical Office with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony. The 18,000-square-foot facility will provide family, pediatric, and specialty care as well as diagnostic imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services, beginning October 24. The Koolau Medical Office is the first and only Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified medical office in Hawaii, providing patients with a healthier care environment while conserving electricity, water and other resources.
Today’s ceremony featured a keiki hula performance by Hula Halau ‘O Kamuela under the direction of Kumu Hula Kau‘i Kamana‘o, and a traditional Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Wendell Silva.
“As Hawaii’s highest rated health care plan, Kaiser Permanente is a leader in caring for our members,” said Janet Liang, president of Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “This state-of-the-art facility brings together the best in intuitive design, latest medical technology, and a tranquil patient-friendly environment to deliver the best possible care for our patients. We are very proud of the care we’ll be able to provide to the Windward Oahu community with this new facility.”
The new Koolau Medical Office is designed according to Total Health Environmental guidelines; boasting bright, open spaces designed for healing and wellness; comfortable waiting areas that support work, respite, education or play; and a design that makes navigation easy.
“It’s been a privilege to be part of this wonderful community for over 45 years, and we are honored and excited to serve our Windward Oahu ‘ohana with this new medical office,” said Geoffrey Sewell, MD, President and Executive Medical Director, Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. “We are committed to supporting our patients’ health and well-being by enriching their quality of life, providing them with high quality, coordinated care, and keeping them at the center of everything we do.”
The facility includes a full-service pharmacy integrated with KP HealthConnect, Kaiser Permanente’s electronic health record system, allowing members 24/7 access to health management tools to schedule appointments and refill prescriptions on the go. Service counters are height-adjustable to adapt to the needs of members and specifically designed to ensure patient privacy. The bright and colorful interior design of Koolau Medical Office is divided into four care areas, each inspired by a plant native to the windward side of Oahu and known for medicinal healing: Noni, Kukui, ‘Olena, and Ma‘o hau hele.
Kaiser Permanente’s new Koolau Medical Office is located at 45-602 Kamehameha Highway and will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, please call 808-432-3800 or visit kp.org.
