(LĪHU’E) – Responding to feedback from the public, county officials announced bus stop changes effective Monday, Jan. 13.
“We’re changing our bus stops at Kaua’i Community College (KCC) to address pedestrian safety issues, while establishing overall route consistency and efficiency,” said Transportation Executive Celia Mahikoa, noting that The Kaua’i Bus will no longer be stopping at Island School.
Currently, only the early morning buses on Route 100 and Route 400 turn into the KCC roadway, and then continue on to Island School when school is in session. At all other times of the day, Route 100 doesn’t turn into the college roadway stopping instead on Kaumuali‘i Highway near the Shell gas station across from the college.
Starting Jan. 13, every bus on Route 100 and Route 400 will stop at the KCC Performing Arts Center not just in the early morning hours. All routes will then return to Kaumuali‘i Highway without stopping at Island School.
Another change that’s scheduled to take effect on Jan. 13 is the removal of the Kaua’i Village parking lot bus stop. This stop will be replaced with a new bus stop located on Kūhi‘ō Highway next to Hoi Road just south of the Kapa‘a Taco Bell restaurant.
A complete listing of all bus routes can be found on The Kaua’i Bus website, www.kauai.gov/transportation.
Printed bus schedules are available on all county buses and at The Kaua’i Bus office located in Līhu’e at 3220 Ho‘olako Street.
