(Honolulu)– Adult Friends for Youth, AFY, will host on Thursday, from 9:30 am to noon, more than 2,500 elementary school students from every part of the island at the Polynesian Cultural Center for its second annual student anti-bullying and violence convention (SABVC).
The event will serve to educate students about the need to treat each other with respect and will be composed on speakers from the community as well as students who have bullied others in the past.
AFY’s philosophy is simple: Kids can change their ways, become productive citizens and contribute positively to society. We believe that investing in kids and youths today will help bring about a positive and rewarding future for them.
Our proven method helps reduce and eliminate substance abuse, gang-related activities and family dysfunction in an effort to enhance the potential for all youths to achieve their goals and aspirations.
The goal of the SABVC is to raise awareness concerning the severity of bullying and cyber-bullying that occurs on school campuses and communities throughout the state of Hawaii, according to the State Department of the Attorney General.
Adult Friends for Youth is proud to hold the second annual Student Anti Bullying & Violence Convention (SABVC) in partnership with the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii Ironworkers Local 625, Polynesian Cultural Center, and Hawaii Weed & Seed.
This convention will help students define the various degrees of bullying and how they can address and resolve these issues. The convention is devoted toward educating students about the effects and consequences of bullying, and to encourage all students to show respect, empathy, compassion, and love & acceptance toward others.
