(Hawaii)– Renowned psychologist and business professor Sheena Iyengar will speak on the ways human beings make choices and how those decisions shape lives. Part of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Better Tomorrow Speaker Series, her talk, Lead by Choice, will be held on Thursday, March 14, 6 p.m. in UH Mānoa’s Art Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Shidler College of Business.
Iyengar is the world’s foremost expert on choice. A social psychologist and professor of management at Columbia University in New York, she is the author of the award-winning The Art of Choosing,as well as scores of scholarly articles. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, and on CNN, PBS and the BBC. Her TED talks have attracted more than 5 million views.
Iyengar’s seminal research focuses on the psychology of decision-making, addressing how humans face challenges in a world where they are inundated with options. Her current research has expanded to examine how to construct our selves and social networks, and how to experience authenticity in an increasingly technological and uncertain world. Her lecture at UH will propose that reconceiving choices can make for more meaningful lives.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. event. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. On-campus parking is available for $6. The facility is ADA accessible. The event will also be live streamed.
