(LĪHU‘E) – The Kaua‘i County Charter Review Commission is considering placing a charter amendment on the 2016 General Election ballot that would change the County Council election system to a district system. Currently, all seven councilmembers are elected on an “at large” basis.
To encourage and expand public participation in the discussion of districting, the commission is conducting an online survey, which can be accessed via the following link, http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KauaiCharterCommission. The deadline for the survey is Dec. 31.
The survey consists of four multiple-choice questions that examine the various scenarios of how councilmembers could be elected using a district system.
Allan Parachini, chair of a sub-committee for the Charter Review Commission, encourages the public to take a few minutes to complete the survey.
“We are seeking large-scale public input to identify what particular district configuration most appeals to voter or whether the people want to leave the system unchanged,” said Parachini, noting that the results of the survey will assist the Commission with making a decision on this matter.
