(Kauai) — The Kauai Department of Water announced that it will hold its final community meeting in Kîlauea regarding a possible new fee structure for its Water System Development Fee (WSDF), which has not been changed in nearly 10 years.
The meeting is scheduled tonight, Jan. 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Kîlauea Neighborhood Center.
While monthly water rates cover the cost of providing service to existing customers and repairing or replacing existing equipment, the WSDF is paid by new water users and existing users who need additional water. The charge is designed to cover the cost of adding new capacity such as new water sources and storage and transmission pipelines.
NOTE: Special accommodations for persons with disabilities are available upon request at least two days prior to the meeting date. Please call the Department of Water at 245-5408 or stop by the office located at 4398 Pua Loke Street in Lîhu’e.
