(MAUI) – The Maui County Office on Aging will be starting two new sessions of its awarding-winning “EnhanceFitness” classes beginning in January 2015. There is no charge for the program, but a voluntary monthly contribution is suggested. Both class sessions will be ongoing.
Classes in Lahaina will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Kaunoa’s West Maui Senior Center starting Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.
On Lanai, classes will be held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Hale Kupuna O Lanai starting Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.
EnhanceFitness® is an award-winning exercise program developed to help older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized and empowered to sustain independent lives.
“These classes challenge active older adults as well as individuals who are unfit or becoming frail,” said EnhanceFitness instructor Paula Keele. “Each class is like four classes in one: aerobics, balance, strength training and stretching. Best of all, the exercises are safe and can be modified for each person’s ability.”
Instructors are specially trained, and the progress of each participant is followed with fitness checks at enrollment and at four-month intervals. Soft wrist and ankle weights are provided; no special or expensive equipment is needed.
To register for the Lahaina class, call West Maui Senior Center at 661-9432. To register for the Lanai class, call Pulama Lanai at (808) 565-3822. For more information, contact Paula Keele at 870-5530.
