(Honolulu) —Local musicians Danny Carvalho, Walt “Keale” Mix, and Stephen Inglis performed an afternoon of Hawaiian music at 15 Craigside to celebrate the second anniversary of senior living community’s concert series program. Each musician was featured during a solo set and the three played together at the end of the concert as a finale. Chris Lau joined the performers on the bass guitar.
Carvalho, Inglis, and Mix perform regularly at 15 Craigside for the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series. OneSunday afternoon a month, 15 Craigside holds a one-hour concert for the residents, typically featuring a solo artist or a musical group. Residents are encouraged to invite family and friends to enjoy an afternoon of music together. Other performers appearing regularly on the 15 Craigside stage include Dave Medeiros (Kawika and Friends), David Yamasaki, Cheryl Bartlett, Sandy Tsukiyama, Rachel Gonzales, and Don Baduria. Today’s celebration concert is an expansion of the regular programming.
“We strive to provide a dynamic environment for our seniors,” says Donna J. Scott, Sales and Marketing Consultant for 15 Craigside. “Our music series is one special and happy aspect of our work. We are fortunate to have some of the most talented musicians around sharing their music with our ohana.”
“The 15 Craigside Theater happens to have some of the best acoustics in town,” comments slack key guitarist Stephen Inglis, who has been playing at 15 Craigside for the last year. “It’s surprising, this little concert venue has great sound, and the best part is that the audience is always warm, appreciative, and receptive.”
Slack key guitarist Danny Carvalho has been playing at 15 Craigside for the last year and musician Walt Mix has been part of the ohana for the last two years. Before today, the three performers had never played together on the 15 Craigside stage, but have performed together at other venues both on Oahu and abroad, and have performed on each other’s recordings. Carvalho expressed excitement in performing with Mix at 15 Craigside, “When Walt sings, you can feel his ancestors in the room with you.”
Carvalho recently launched his newest release, “Ke Au Hou.” Inglis launches a new release called, “Soul Sound Slack.” Mix is also each working on releasing a new CD in the next couple months.
