(Kauai) — The Kauai Department of Water announced that it will continue to hold public meetings around the island to enable the community to comment on possible new rate structures for its Water System Development Fee (WSDF), which has not been changed in nearly 10 years.
While monthly water rates cover the cost of providing service to existing customers and repairing or replacing existing equipment, the WSDF is paid by new water users and existing users who need additional water. The charge is designed to cover the cost of adding new capacity such as new water sources and storage and transmission pipelines.
The meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. as follows:
Thursday, Jan. 17 – Kalâheo Neighborhood Center
Tuesday, Jan. 22 – Hanapçpç Neighborhood Center
A meeting at the Kîlauea Neighborhood Center is also planned. Details on that meeting are forthcoming.
