(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services provides the following update regarding the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP):
Test results of effluent samples taken May 22 and May 23, 2024, have shown the enterococcus bacteria count in the WWTP treated effluent is within National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit limits for the Sand Island WWTP, and the May 21 exceedance is not continuing.
Additionally, test results from samples at the eight (8) offshore stations and five (5) shoreline stations taken May 23 show bacteria levels are well within state water quality criteria.
