(Honolulu) –Kaiser Permanente today announced the addition of eight new providers to the Hawaii region. They join more than 600 physicians and other health care providers within the state’s largest medical group, the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG), which provides comprehensive care to Kaiser Permanente’s 240,000-plus members in Hawaii.
Marc Albertson, PA-C, joins the urology department at Moanalua Medical Center. Albertson obtained his master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, Calif., where he completed rotations in orthopaedic and cardiothoracic surgery. He also served as a representative for the California Association of Physician Assistants. Albertson is a certified physician assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Mehtap Berkmen, MD, joins the endocrinology department at Wailuku Medical Office. Dr. Berkmen earned her medical degree from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey, and completed her residency in internal medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Conn. Dr. Berkmen also completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami, Fla. She is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and holds an Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
Stephenie Fleegle, MD, will practice geriatric medicine at Honolulu Medical Office. She received her medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Fleegle completed her residency in family and community medicine, as well as a fellowship in geriatrics, at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Fleegle previously served as a locum tenens family medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente’s Hilo Clinic. She is board certified in Family and Geriatric Medicine.
Alissa Hino, PA-C, graduated with her master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif., where her training included both clinical and didactic phases. She previously worked at Dean Ba Ngo, MD, Inc. in Westminster, Calif., an internal medicine, geriatric, and family medicine private practice company. Hino is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and joins the same-day care department at Waipio Medical Office.
Keri Lemmond, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist, earned her medical degree at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Temple, Texas. She completed her psychiatry residency at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I. Previously, Dr. Lemmond served as a locum tenens physician at Kaiser Permanente’s behavioral health services clinic in Wailuku, Maui. She will continue to provide care there and will also join the behavioral health services department at Kona Medical Office.
Elmer Parwani, PA-C, will practice in the same-day care department at Waipio Medical Office. He attended the physician assistant program at Moreno Valley College in Moreno Valley, Calif., before he earned his Master of Medical Science from St. Francis University in Loretto, Penn. Albertson previously served as a Post-Deployment Health Reassessment Provider with the United States Air Force, working on Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. He is certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
William Shapiro, MD, joins the after-hours care department at Maui Lani Medical Office. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University, now Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Shapiro served as an internal medicine resident at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., completing his residency program at Milwaukee County Medical Complex in Milwaukee, Wis. He comes to Hawaii from Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California region, where he served in the emergency departments of Orange County–Anaheim and Orange County–Irvine facilities. Dr. Shapiro is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American College of Physicians.
Charina Sumner, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She earned her master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif., where she worked at free community health clinics hosted by the university. Sumner will practice same-day care at Honolulu Medical Office.
