Urban gardeners Pat Chung and Meg Lin will be at their respective gardens answering questions along with other docents. Pat Chung said, “Our goal is to increase awareness of the beauty, ease and fun of running an urban garden. Adding to that, the health benefits of growing fresh veggies, fresh eggs from your own chickens, fresh fish, and honey from hardworking honeybees!” Both gardens have water catchment systems for watering as well as various composting systems.
Malama Manoa was founded in January 1992. Its mission is to promote community; to celebrate our cultural diversity and heritage; and to preserve, protect and enhance the special qualities of historic Manoa Valley. Some on-going projects include regular cleaning of Manoa Stream, a biennial Kupuna event, a biennial Manoa Historic Walking Tour and, as the lead agency in creating the first thematic historic district in Manoa Valley, the continuing effort to add more historic homes to this district.
