Nine students graduated from the Hawai‘i CC Nursing program on Wednesday, July 24 during a ceremony at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo.

(HILO)– Nine students from Hawai‘i Community College graduated from the Nursing program this week with Certificates of Achievement that have prepared them to become Licensed Practical Nurses.
The students and their families, along with faculty and administrators from Hawai‘i CC, celebrated the accomplishment with a pinning ceremony on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo. The ceremony is the culmination of a year-long program that began in fall 2012.
With the Certificate of Achievement in Practical Nursing, the students are prepared to take the national licensure test in Honolulu that will certify them as Licensed Practical Nurses. Many graduates from Hawai‘i CC’s Practical Nursing program find employment at long-term care facilities and clinics on Hawai‘i Island.
“These students have worked very hard,” said Jane Sherwood, Associate Professor of Nursing at Hawai‘i CC. “This program is an intense one-year certificate, and these graduates are very competent. We are proud of them.”
The nine graduates are: Cindy Aguiar, Marcia Antoque, Sarah Balcita, Kimberly Callison, Lily Chen, Maile Comilla, Jonathon Reece, James “Kimo” Spalding, and Llyz Whitney.
Hawai‘i CC’s Nursing & Allied Health Program offers Associate of Science degrees in Nursing and Certificates of Achievement in Practical Nursing. This fall, the college expects to have 75 students enrolled in the Nursing & Allied Health Program in Hilo and Kona.
