(Honolulu)– J Salon, Hawaii’s upscale salon for men and women, welcomes two of Honolulu’s top hair and beauty talents to its team. Catherine Acena, hair stylist and colorist, and Gerry Brown, make-up and brow waxing artist, have joined the salon located in the Ward Plaza at 210 Ward Ave.
The expansion of the creative team coincides with the re-launch of J Salon’s brow shaping, facial waxing and makeup application services, as well as the launch of J Salon Cosmetics.
Both Acena and Brown made the move from Paul Brown Salon and Day Spa, where they had been generating a cult following since the late 1990s.
Catherine Acena, an acolyte of Vidal Sassoon and an artist whose medium is hair, has staged more than 50 hair shows from Honolulu to Amsterdam. She started in the business at Maurice Damien in 1982, then opened Diva salon as owner/stylist in 1987. She joined Paul Brown in 1997 where she was stylist, colorist, educator and art director. She is an expert in all color techniques including highlights, lowlights, balayage and ombre.
With a career spanning almost 30 years, Gerry Brown is one of Honolulu’s pre-eminent make-up artists and brow designers. She has served as freelance make-up artist for local and national celebrities and was responsible for expanding the make-up department at Paul Brown (no relation). She will be working with J Salon co-owner/lead stylist Joe Randazzo to create a new make-up line at the salon.

Services at J Salon include haircuts and styling for men and women, hair coloring, hair extensions, keratin smoothing treatments, and now make-up and facial waxing. Featured products include the complete lines of Kerastase and Shu Uemura haircare product as well as a carefully curated selection of hairbrushes and other styling implements.
