(Honolulu)– Kaiser Permanente Hawaii announced that Bill Haug has expanded his role as chief operating officer, care delivery, Hawaii region to include the role of vice president, quality, safety and service. Haug’s expanded responsibilities for the state’s largest integrated health care organization serve to accelerate and continue Kaiser Permanente’s leadership role in quality, safety and service.
“Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has achieved excellent results in quality of care and service, and continues to be the highest performing health care organization in Hawaii,” said Kaiser Permanente Hawaii President Janet Liang. “We are proud of these results and under Bill’s leadership, our members will continue to receive the high-quality care they have come to expect from Kaiser Permanente.”
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii was recently ranked the highest rated health plan in the state, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s1 2012 ranking of health plans in the nation. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services also awarded Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Medicare Plan the highest rating of five stars for quality and service, making it the only 5-star plan in the state for the second year in a row. Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center was also one of only two Hawaii hospitals to receive an “A” grade in a national report card issued by the Leapfrog Group that focuses on patient safety. More than half of Hawaii hospitals were rated average or below average.
Haug, who joined Kaiser Permanente Hawaii in December 2010 as hospital administrator for Moanalua Medical Center and was, subsequently, promoted in July 2012 to chief operating officer, care delivery system, has 40 years of health care experience. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, he was with Children’s Hospital Central California, where he had been president and chief executive officer since 2000. Prior to Children’s, Haug was president and CEO of the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital, a managed care organization located in Los Angeles, Calif.
