(Honolulu) –The Department of Parks and Recreation People’s Open Market will host a celebration offering affordable fruits and vegetables to customers at the Kalihi Valley District Park, 1911 Kam IV Road, on Saturday, August 25, from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
The event highlights the availability and affordability of fresh produce to consumers who use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Electronic Benefits Transfer cards (SNAP-EBT) at the Kalihi Valley People’s Open Market. Customers using their electronic cards can double their dollars with a $15 maximum at the Kalihi Valley Open Market when purchasing fresh local products. SNAP-EBT cards are part of a national food stamp program that provides consumers with discounted products through participating retailers, including grocery stores and farmers markets.
The celebration includes food demonstrations, samples and giveaway,s gardening workshops, and sign-ups for SNAP benefits. Customers desiring to sign up for benefits can do so on Saturday.
