(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services (ENV) announces the temporary closure of the Kawailoa Transfer Station to the public, private haulers, and city haulers on two specific dates in the upcoming weeks. The facility will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Monday, December 11, for the entire day.
The temporary closures are necessary as ENV takes proactive measures to enhance the infrastructure of the Kawailoa Transfer Station. Crews will be pouring concrete to add both a new load-out and office building onsite, ensuring improved operational efficiency and service capabilities.
During these closure periods, the public is kindly requested to either hold their trash until the transfer station reopens or utilize an alternative city disposal location.
ENV acknowledges the inconvenience these closures may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as ENV works towards upgrading the Kawailoa Transfer Station for a more resilient and efficient waste management system.
