(Oahu)– Keiki with winning business ideas are getting a chance to open shop for a day at Ka Makana Ali‘i. The West O‘ahu center’s upcoming Business Showcase event, part of its annual Kids, Inc. program, provides children an opportunity to learn about business, make some money and have fun in the process.
The keiki Business Showcase will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 at Ka Makana Ali‘i’s center court. During the event, keiki will have a space all their own to practice their entrepreneurial skills and sell their wares. Winning business ideas that made it into the showcase this year range from soaps to slime and more.
“It has been great to see all the creativity and fun business ideas flood in,” said Stephanie England, general manager of Ka Makana Ali‘i. “We are looking forward to this next phase of the program when we get to support the kids by putting them in business. What a great event for keiki, parents and the community as well.”
Community members are encouraged to attend and support the young business owners. This is the first year Ka Makana Ali‘i is participating in the annual Kids, Inc. program, hosted at select Jones Lang LaSalle-managed shopping centers throughout the United States. The goal of the program is to promote retail entrepreneurism among today’s youth.
Children ranging in ages from six to 16 were invited to participate by submitting their business plans to Ka Makana Ali‘i. Participants were provided the opportunity to create something from scratch, offer a service, or resell a product purchased from a wholesaler. Keiki businesses are expected to have minimal parental involvement.
