(LĪHU’E) – The Kaua’i Police Department is now accepting applications to its Police Explorer program, a program for young adults interested in a career in law enforcement.
The Explorer program is open to males and females who are at least 14 years of age and have completed the 8th grade through age 20. High School students must have at least a “C” average in school, and all applicants must be committed to attending monthly meetings and activities throughout the year.
Explorers will gain exposure to various careers in criminal justice through hands-on learning. Activities will include patrol ride-alongs, physical fitness, rappelling, and community service, as well as training in self-defense, criminal investigations, traffic control and many other areas.
“Many of our Explorers have gone on to become Kauai police officers, so we are very excited to revitalize this program,” stated Assistant Police Chief Michael Contrades.
