(Maui)– The County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Office on Aging announced that it will sponsor the “Better Choices…Better Health” healthy living workshop this month.
This workshop will provide practical information, tools and support to people of all ages who are interested in incorporating healthier habits into their lives, and help people with chronic conditions better manage their health.
The workshop will consist of a series of six classes that focus on learning and implementing practical skills used to stay healthy and control symptoms through relaxation, nutrition, improved communication skills, medication management, exercise and more. Participants develop achievable “action plans” that lead to positive changes and greater confidence.
The workshop will run every Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., starting October 25 and ending on December 6. There will be no workshop held on Thanksgiving.
The workshops will be held at the Kalama Heights second floor Chapel at 101 Kanani Street.
Participants will receive “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, 3rd Edition,” and an audio relaxation CD, “Time for Healing”.
The cost for the six-session workshop is $10 for those 60 and older, and $35 for those under 60. For those experiencing financial hardship, scholarships applications are available to complete and submit prior to the first workshop.
Advance registration is required as space is limited to 15 participants per class. Small interactive classes focus on building skills, sharing experiences and developing support.
Transportation may be available. Caregivers are encouraged to attend.
