(Oahu)— Ever wonder what it would be like to walk among the dinosaurs? To be face to face with the prehistoric beasts that wandered the Earth all those years ago? That’s the hook for Walking with Dinosaurs 3D, but does stand tall? Or should it have remained in the past?
The CGI animated feature does a masterful job when it comes to the graphics. The textures, the colors, the animation work is outstanding, and should be reason enough to see this film. I was in awe of the visuals displayed here, and I think many others will be as well.
Now, for the downside: for some reason, instead of making this a purely CGI animated feature on dinosaurs, the studio decided to make this more “kid” friendly and add live action segments that bookend the animation. Unfortunately, the scenes, featuring actor Karl Urban and some very unrealistic dialogue, come across as incredibly cheesy.
Now, the animation itself, though amazing, does include some not so terrific dialogue as well. The dinosaurs (and bird) are voiced by Justin Long, John Leguizamo, and so on, who are usually entertaining. But for this film, their dialogue comes across out of place and out of time. It does detract from the experience of the film, but not so much to ruin it.
If you love dinosaurs, or have kids who do, then I would recommend checking out this film. I can guarantee the visuals will astound you if nothing else.
