(Haleiwa)– NiteRun, Hawaii’s most successful and popular 5K running series, has just announced Haleiwa NiteRun on to take place on December, 13 at Haleiwa Beach Park.
Haleiwa, Hawaii is without a doubt the pearl of Oahu’s North Shore and one of the most sought after destinations in the world. For this and many other reasons, NiteRun Founder, John Henderson decided to host the final race of 2014 in this iconic community. “NiteRun is all about family and what better location than Haleiwa to host our final race for the year? We so excited about being able to bring the NiteRun experience to our Haleiwa ohana,” Henderson said.
As always, the event will feature its unique brand of a fun night time 5K family run/walk followed by a Family Fair with live bands, DJ’s, food vendors and keiki area with bounce houses, a waterslide and even a Santa photo booth!
Entertainment will include live music from Roothub, DJ Jenr8r, Paul Izak and Migz
Besides the race, delicious food and live music, NiteRun will also host a holiday themed costume contest as well as a family fair! All race proceeds benefit JDRF Hawaii and their mission to fund research and find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
For Henderson, who also sits on the board of directors of JDRF, this particular event has a special place in his heart because it combines his passion for helping non-profits organizations while bringing fun events to different areas of Oahu. “For Haleiwa, we are going full on family friendly event. We are going to have our stroller division, it is kid friendly and we are hoping all families come out to this event. We are going to be offering a free Family Fair that we hope will bring together the North Shore community during these festive times.”
Henderson, who is also the owner of Adventure Race Hawaii, was at one time a world-class triathlete, until in 2009 a collision with a bus changed his life. “I was hit by a bus and now I am an incomplete paraplegic and spend most of my time in a wheelchair,” he said.
Henderson turned a negative event into a positive life and since co-founding NiteRun he made it his priority to give back to those in need. “I always wanted to get back into sport and I decided that all of my efforts of NiteRun would go to benefit others, community, friends family and non profits. It is also my opportunity to give back to the North Shore community that has given me so much with support, friends and family.”
Henderson concluded that NiteRun is an event by and for the community. “It’s not about the money, it’s about awareness, it’s about giving, and it’s about the holidays and coming together. We want to invite everyone!”
