(LĪHU‘E) – Contractors working on the new Hokulei Village shopping center will be re-opening Nuhou Street to through traffic between Kaumuali‘i Highway and Kaneka Street as of August 1, 2014.
The road has been closed since June 9 to facilitate construction of a new roundabout. The closure was timed to coincide with the Department of Education’s summer break.
As of August 1, one lane in each direction on Nuhou Street will be open at the Kaneka Street intersection. Traffic from Kaneka Street will also be allowed to turn right or left onto Nuhou Street. Traffic in all directions will have to stop at the intersection before proceeding.
“Even though through traffic will be restored there will still be construction in the area,” stated County Engineer Larry Dill. He noted that pedestrian access on Nuhou Street from Ulu Maika Street to Kaneka Street will be restricted to the sidewalk fronting the Regency at Puakea. “We encourage anyone that can avoid the area during peak school drop-off and pickup times to use an alternate route.”
