(KAPA‘A) – This year’s Mayor-a-thon pays tribute to dads with the theme “Hats Off to Dads!” Fittingly, the first 600 people to register online for the event at www.getfitkauai.com will receive a hat.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to sign up early to walk, run or bike one, two, four, six or eight miles in the Seventh annual Mayor-a-thon. The event will be held on Saturday, June 20 at the Kapa‘a Beach Park with check-in set for 6:30 a.m.
The deadline to register for this free event is midnight, Thursday, June 18.
Online registrants will have a chance to win great prizes including, a two-night stay at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club and one of four bicycles. You must be present to win.
There will also be games and live music and a healthy continental breakfast will be served. In addition, police officers will be distributing free reusable shopping bags and blinking safety lights from Walk Wise Hawai‘i.
As the Mayor-a-thon is a Zero Waste event, participants should bring their own water bottles or pick up a free bottle provided by GEICO at the event.
Participants can also contribute toward a Healthy Food Drive with proceeds going to the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and The Hawai‘i Food Bank – Kaua‘i Branch. Suggested items to donate include: canned or dried fruits; 100 percent fruit or fruit/vegetable juice; canned vegetables; canned soups; 100 percent vegetable juice; brown or hapa rice; whole grain cereals; dried beans or lentils; canned beans; canned tuna; canned meat; shelf stable milk; and more.
A free shuttle will be available to Westside residents.
Bus stop locations and pick-up times for the Westside bus are scheduled as follows:
Kekaha Neighborhood Center – 5:30 a.m.
Waimea Athletic Field – 5:35 a.m.
Hanapēpē Multi-Purpose Building – 5:45 a.m.
Kalāheo Post Office – 5:55 a.m.
Kukui Grove Center – 6:10 a.m.
Return trip from the Kapa‘a Public Library – 10:45 a.m.
Dogs will be allowed at the event. However, they must be leashed.
The Mayor-a-thon is sponsored by Get Fit Kaua’i, the County of Kaua’i and HMSA.
