(LĪHU‘E) — County officials announced that online registration for the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) will begin on Friday, May 15, 8 a.m., on the county website, www.kauai.gov.
The theme for this year is “Discovering the Universe” and many of the activities will focus on this.
The session runs for six weeks from June 15 to July 24, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Fourth of July holiday will be observed.
The program is open to youngsters, age’s five to 11. Program sites include the Kīlauea, Kapa‘a, Līhu‘e, Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, and Kekaha neighborhood centers, as well as King Kaumuali‘i, Kōloa and Wilcox elementary schools
Enrollment is limited and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The fee schedule is as follows:
- One child, $79.74, including processing fee
- Two children, $101.74, including processing fee
- Three children, $123.72, including processing fee
- Four children, $145.72, including processing fee
All major credit cards will be accepted for payment including: American Express, Master Card, VISA and Discover. In addition, debit and pre-paid credit cards will be accepted.
Lunch will be provided daily at no extra charge except for one day of the week – Wednesday, the day excursions are scheduled. Parents must provide lunch for their children on Wednesdays.
Meals will be prepared through the USDA Food and Nutrition Branch Summer Food Service Program with service between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The same meal will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
Another summer program offered by the county is the Junior Leader Program, which is designed to offer young people ages 12 to 16 the opportunity to work with participants in the Summer Enrichment Program. To be considered for this program, applicants must submit an essay titled “Why I would like to be a junior leader” to recadm@kauai.gov.
The deadline to apply for the Junior Leader Program is Friday, June 5.
Registration for the summer golf classes will begin on Friday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Wailua Golf Course pro shop.
The program is open to youngsters ages seven to 15. The registration fee is $35 per person per session.
Three two-week sessions are being offered at the Wailua Golf Course: June 8 to 19; June 22 to July 2; and July 6 to 17.
The sessions will run Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., except on holidays.
Participants will need to bring a golf bag along with the following clubs: a driver; No. 5, 7 and 9 irons; putter; and a pitching wedge.

Registration for summer swimming classes at the Kapa‘a and Waimea swimming pools will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.
The program is open to youngsters’ age’s five to 11. Enrollment is limited, and will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Two sessions are being offered, June 9 to June 27 and June 30 to July 18. The first session will be for beginners, while the second session will have classes for beginning and advanced swimmers.
The classes will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The first one will run from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the second class, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 am.
