(Hawaii)–From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Talib Babb with HHS HealthBeat.
The best gift you can ever give is life. Currently, more than 120,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for a donated organ to save their life. One person may save up to eight lives through organ donation, and thousands more can benefit through eye and tissue donation.
Dr. Howard Koh is the assistant secretary for health.
“For many of them, an organ transplant is the only treatment available to save their life. Don’t rule yourself out even if you have a medical condition. You are never too old or too young to be a donor and it’s important that you sign up on your state’s registry and tell your family.”
Anyone, regardless of age or medical history, can sign up to be a donor. There is no cost for the donor or their family.
Learn more and sign up in your state; go to organdonor.gov.
