(Maui) – A free discount card for prescription drugs is available for Maui County residents, Councilmember Michael P. Victorino announced today.
Through a partnership with the National Association of Counties, Maui County is a participating member in the NACo Prescription Discount Card Program. The program has saved residents across the country more than $500 million on prescription medications, said Victorino, a member of NACo’s board of directors.
Consumers across the country save an average of 24 percent off the retail price of prescribed medications when using the discount card.
“This program is not new, but reports indicate only a few claims have been made in Maui County,” Victorino said. “With rising health maintenance costs, this opportunity to save in prescription drugs– including select pet medications – is a way to keep dollars in residents’ pockets.”
Residents may get a discount card at no cost from participating pharmacies, including Longs, Costco, Safeway, Kmart, Walmart, Walgreens and Mina Pharmacy. Residents may also print their own card and check participating pharmacies by visiting www.naco.org/drugcard.
The card may be used by residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage. There is no enrollment form or membership fee, and there are no restrictions or limits on frequency of use.
The program is administered by CVS Caremark. Maui County is among1,400 counties across the country currently offering the NACo Prescription Discount Card Program to residents, Victorino said.
