(Oahu)– Ho‘omaluhia Botanical Garden is now scheduled to reopen to the public on Monday, January 5, 2026 due to weather delays experienced by the garden’s road repaving project. Following days of rainy weather, additional time is needed to complete the extensive maintenance effort, which began about a month ago and was initially scheduled to be complete before Christmas.
The closure also impacts popular recreational programs within the 400-acre botanical garden, including catch-and-release fishing and overnight camping. Fishing is expected to resume on Wednesday, January 7 with permitted camping returning on Friday, January 9, 2026.
The effort to repave all 2.4 miles of the garden’s main road began the week of November 12, 2025, progressing from the southern-end of the garden towards the main entrance on Luluku Rd.
Once the botanical garden is reopened in early January, regular closures of the garden will take effect for every Thursday beginning January 8.
We greatly appreciate the continued patience of garden visitors and the surrounding community as we make these crucial improvements to this heavily used road. The public is encouraged to contact Hoʻomaluhia’s dedicated staff via email at HoomaluhiaBG@honolulu.gov or by phone at (808) 768-8942 for more information or project status updates.
