(Honolulu)– Rotary Club of Honolulu (RCOH) members will celebrate their 100th year of “Service Above Self” in 2015 by volunteering countless hours for a $150,000 project at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (BGCH)-Charles C. Spalding Clubhouse gym. The centennial project funded by RCOH will culminate in a beautiful new space for youth and their families in what will be called the “Centennial Court” at the Spalding Clubhouse.
2015-2016 Rotary International (RI) President K.R. ‘Ravi’ Ravindran and his wife have accepted the Rotary Club of Honolulu’s invitation to attend its July 7th Centennial meeting at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The RI President will then visit the Spalding Clubhouse and meet the young beneficiaries-to-be.
“Considering that there are 34,000 Rotary clubs across the globe…1.2 million Rotarians in 200 countries and regions…we are honored that the Rotary International President has chosen to celebrate with us at the beginning of his leadership year,” said Linda Coble, RCOH Past President. “It will be a great opportunity for the President to meet many of the Rotarians from the 51 clubs statewide, and share his dreams for our second century of service!”
Youth will greet Ravindran and other Rotarians as well as special guests. They will gather in the gymnasium for an opportunity to hear Ravindran speak about philanthropy and the project start-date of what will be the Clubhouse’s brand new gymnasium.
“We are so excited to welcome Ravindran to the Spalding Clubhouse where he can meet the youth directly impacted by the Centennial Court Renovation,” said Charles C. Spalding Clubhouse Director Natalie Pawluk. “Our keiki are so very fortunate to have Rotary’s support. The gymnasium that will feature ‘Centennial Court’ is a space used daily for athletic and fitness programs, and on a monthly basis for ohana nights and family programs. By renovating the gymnasium, our keiki will feel valued by key leaders in the community who want them to have the foundations to succeed in life.”
RCOH plans to complete Centennial Court renovations by summer of 2016. RCOH has also participated in service projects at BGCH Clubhouse sites in the past. Projects have included painting, wainscoting and landscaping work.
