(Kaua’i) RSVP, an organization that’s sponsored by the Agency on Elderly Affairs, today announced the launch of its school supplies collection drive for students in need at K’loa Elementary School.
The items that are being collected include one- and two -inch binders, crayons, No. 2 pencils, colored markers and composition tablets. According to the school, “these are the items that their students can really use,” said Executive on Aging Kealoha Takahashi.
Contributions to this cause would be greatly appreciated.
The school supplies can be dropped off Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agency on Elderly Affairs. The office is located at the L’hu’e Civic Center (LCC), Pi’ikoi Building, Suite 330. The last day for drop-offs at the LCC is Jan. 20.
Donations toward this effort will also be collected at Times Supermarket at Kukui Grove Center on two consecutive Saturdays, Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The collection drive is part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which honors Dr. King’s memory with service to others, particularly those most in need. The goal of the nationally recognized Day of Service is to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen local communities.
As Dr. King himself said, “Life’s most urgent and persistent question is: What are you doing for others?”
