(Honolulu) — The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking applicants for the 85th Annual Lei Queen selection. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 11, 2013. Applications are available at www.honoluluparks.com, or by contacting DPR at 768-3041.
The theme for the 2013 Lei Day Celebration is Lei Ali‘i ‘A‘ala, fragrant, prestigious lei. Applicants must be between 31-54 years of age by Saturday, March 2, 2013, to qualify. The lei queen selection will be held on March 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kapolei Hale. The event is free and open to the public.
The 86th Annual Lei Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Queen Kapi‘olani Regional Park and Bandstand, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In preparation for the annual lei contest, DPR staff will provide free lei-making workshops at various sties on O‘ahu. The schedule will be available to the public by mid-December.
