(HONOLULU)–The Department of Environmental Services (ENV) has rescheduled planned sewer smoke testing in the Enchanted Lakes area due to expected heavy rains and inclement weather.
Originally scheduled to take place from April 6 through May 8, smoke testing will now begin on April 13 and continue through May 8, weather permitting.
Rescheduling the work ensures the testing can be conducted safely and effectively as wet weather can impact the accuracy of results.
During the test, crews will fan non-toxic smoke into underground sewer pipes to help identify defects such as cracks, leaks or improper connections in the wastewater system. The results help the City maintain a safe and efficient sewer network.
The smoke used is non-hazardous and should not enter homes or businesses. However, smoke may enter through defective plumbing or dried drainpipes. If smoke appears inside your home or building during testing, open windows for ventilation and notify the City at (808)768-7272.
