(Oahu)– Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii (SCH) is calling for volunteers of all ages to help with the Mauka to Makai Cleanup on Saturday, April 19h in celebration of Earth Day.
Buses will be departing Kualoa at approximately 9:30 am to shuttle volunteers to a multitude of community service projects from the top of the ahupua’a all the way to the sea like native planting, invasive species removal, fishpond restoration, beach cleanups all over the east side of Oahu, and more. Mauka to Makai partners include Papahana Kualoa, Kako’o Oiwi, Hui o Ko’olaupoko, and Paepae o He’eia along with beach cleanup partners KUPU, Ocean Devotion, Surfrider, Kahuku Bodyboarders Association, Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks, HECO and more.
Anyone interested in becoming part of the cleanup effort can check in at Kualoa Ranch starting at 8:30 am. Following the morning of community service, Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii provides an afternoon of education and entertainment, featuring food vendors, educational booths, keiki activities, prize giveaways, and live music from the Late Ones and Dread Ashanti. Free t-shirts for the first 1000 volunteers are being provided by sponsors Hurley and Hawaiian Electric.
