(Kauai)- Over the last few weeks, synthetic turf has been installed at four county playgrounds including Kīlauea, Anahola, Kōloa and Kalawai.
This is the second phase of the transition from rubberized surfaces to synthetic turf at county parks. The new material is becoming the standard for public playgrounds.
“We started the changeover with the parks in Puhi and Ōma‘o and the feedback from the public and our park caretakers has been very positive,” said Parks and Recreation Director Lenny Rapozo. “The synthetic turf is much safer for children to play on and is more economical to maintain.”
In addition to the resurfacing, ground-level elements were added for accessibility at all four parks and worn-out playground parts will be replaced by new components.
Plans are also in place for a makeover of Isenberg Park with the installation of synthetic turf and new playground equipment.
