(HONOLULU) – The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu has received a $20,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund that will help meet the increasing need for quality health care in the community of West O‘ahu. Since the hospital opened on May 20, patient numbers show just how tremendous the demand was. In the first seven days, there were 940 visits to the emergency room and 126 inpatient admissions.
“The Monsanto Fund’s generous gift makes it possible for Queen’s to grow in the community, and we’ve already begun,” said Susan Murray, senior vice president of The Queen’s Health Systems, West Oahu Region, and chief operating officer of The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu. “We recently held a fourth job fair in eight months. This means more residents can work closer to home and enjoy a better quality of life. For the community, it means even greater access to health care. It is our privilege to provide these services to the people of West Oahu.”
“As the philanthropic arm of Monsanto, the Fund is focused on one goal: improving communities around us,” said John Purcell, business and technology lead for Monsanto Hawaii. “We’re very proud to support The Queen’s Medical Center’s efforts to expand much needed health care services to residents in West O‘ahu.”
The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu is located at 91-2141 Fort Weaver Road, Ewa Beach. Services include those essential to a community hospital such as emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery, imaging, cardiology and specialty clinics. The hospital has 80 beds and will increase up to 135 beds as volume increases.
