(Kauai)– The Department of Water (DOW) is extending a water conservation request for residents in the Hâ’ena and Wainiha areas until mid-September.
The extension is being issued to allow the Department’s contractor Unlimited Construction to continue rehabilitation work on the existing 100,000 gallon Hâ’ena tank and the Wainiha booster pump station.
Area residents are asked to continue to conserve water and restrict water consumption to essential uses.
Essential uses include: cooking; bathing; and toilet flushing.
Water conservation measures include: refraining from car washing; reducing outdoor irrigation; and using water wisely indoors and outdoors.
With the limited capacity of the smaller temporary tanks that are currently providing water service to the affected areas, conservation is necessary to avoid outages.
Residents in the Hâ’ena and Wainiha areas are also asked to notify their neighbors of the water conservation notice and encourage their participation.
The Department of Water would like to thank residents and visitors in these areas for conserving water and for their patience while the work is being done.
This project is part of Water Plan 2020, DOW’s comprehensive long range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure so customers can continue to be provided with safe and affordable water.
