(Kauai)– The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a water outage for the Nâwiliwili area from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, to 6 a.m. the next morning. The shutdown will allow DOW’s contractor Goodfellow Bros. to do much needed work on the existing water pipeline.
This project is part of Water Plan 2020, a comprehensive long range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure so customers can continue to be provided with safe and affordable water.
During the shutdown, customers along Rice Street from the Lala Road intersection to the Moko‘i Street intersection as well as those along Pa‘ena and Kalapakî roads will have no water service including: Kaua‘i Marriott Beach Resort; Pali Kai Cottages; Harbor Mall; and Anchor Cove Shopping Center.
A detailed map of all affected streets can be viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org.
Affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet their needs during the outage.
- Notify family, friends, and neighbors that may be affected by the outage.
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the outage.
- Exercise caution while driving through the area.
The Department of Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks affected customers for their patience and cooperation in preparing for the water outage as improvements to aging infrastructure continue.
Affected customers that have listed phone number or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted through Connect CTY about the outage.
Those who have not yet signed up for the free notification service and would like to do so should log onto the county website, www.kauai.gov, or call the Kaua’i Civil Defense Agency at 241-1800.
