(Kauai)–The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a water outage in the Hâ‘ena–Wainiha area on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus an additional two hours to flush the system. The outage will allow the department’s contractor, Unlimited Builders, LLC, to tie into the newly renovated Hâ‘ena steel tank.
The areas that will have no water service are all of Hâ‘ena and parts of the Wainiha area including those along Kûhi‘ô Highway from the Wainiha Powerhouse Road intersection to just beyond the Ananalu Road intersection, as well as all of those along Ananalu Road.
A detailed map of all the affected streets can be viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org.
Affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet their needs during the outage.
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the outage.
- Notify family, friends, and neighbors that may also be affected by the outage.
DOW will provide portable water tanks at the intersection of Kûhi‘ô Highway and Alealea Road and at the intersection of Kûhi‘ô Highway and Waniha Powerhouse Road for customers that run out of water during the shutdown. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
When the water main is turned back on after the connection is done, it is possible that air will be mixed into the water. If this happens, the water will appear white or milky in color. The air in the water will dissipate after a while and should not be cause for alarm.
Motorists should exercise caution when driving through the affected area.
The Department of Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks affected customers for their patience and cooperation in preparing for the water outage.
Affected customers that have listed phone numbers or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted through Connect CTY about the outage.
Those who have not signed up for the free notification service and would like to do so should log onto the county Website at www.kauai.gov or call the Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency at 241-1800.
