Cancer survivors can have problems in getting good sleep, sometimes for years – related to things like their chemotherapy drugs, or a worsening of sleep problems they had before their diagnosis. But a study indicates cancer survivors who took up a form of gentle yoga slept better.
At the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, researcher Karen Mustian looked at data on her study of survivors with sleep problems who did yoga for 75 minutes twice a week for a month.
“While they showed greater improvements in their overall rating of their sleep, they really showed improvements in feeling less tired during the day and napping less.”
The study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
