(Maui) – Mayor Alan Arakawa’s next “County on Your Corner” will be held on Saturday, March 9, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lipoa Street Farmer’s Market, located at 95 Lipoa Street in Kihei.
Joining Arakawa will be Managing Director Keith Regan, Mayor’s Chief of Staff Herman Andaya, Department of Parks & Recreation Deputy Director Brianne Savage, as well as Mayor’s Executive Assistants John Buck and Zeke Kalua.
Personnel from the Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety also will be present to provide information and applications for free smoke detectors as part of the Fire Prevention Bureau’s Smoke Alarm Maui (SAM) program. The smoke detectors will be available for display at the event, and qualified applicants can have the devices installed at a later date free of charge by a licensed electrician under the supervision of fire department personnel.
“This is a life-saving program and we would like as many qualified people to sign up for it as possible,” said Mayor Arakawa. “We are happy to have fire department personnel here as it is important for all our departments to connect with people face to face.”
“County on Your Corner” is scheduled in a different location each month so that residents can interact with County officials to address the issues that are of most interest to them. This month’s event is being held in conjunction with the addition of live bands as part of “Music at the Market” and a special recognition for “Grow Some Good,” a South Maui organization responsible for many of the new school gardens and programs introducing keiki to the joys of growing fresh produce and fruits.
“On behalf of our Lipoa Street Farmer’s Market Ohana, we are glad that Mayor Arakawa will be returning to our Market with his executive staff to hold ‘County on Your Corner,’” said Executive Producer Steve Rose. “Mayor Arakawa has been a supporter of our REALMaui™ Farmers Market from the beginning- he was one of the first in government to attend our Market.”
