(Hilo)– Beginning on Monday, May 15th and running through May 19th, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home is celebrating National Nursing Home Week with a variety of special events and a volunteer appreciation luncheon.
“During this special week, we wanted to make sure to appreciate every part of Yukio Okutsu,” said Yukio Okutsu Administrator David R. Pettijohn. “From our staff to our volunteers and most importantly, for our residents who served our country proudly.”
Monday, May 15th is being designated as a “Patriotic Day”. We encourage our residents to wear their favorite patriotic attire. Tuesday, May 16th, we will be celebrating our nursing staff, as we provide desserts, cotton candy, popcorn and soft drinks to show our appreciation for all that they do on a daily basis. Wednesday, May 17th is our Hat Day and Outdoor Zoo Day for Veterans. We encourage our residents to sport their favorite hat and join in our afternoon outdoor activities. Thursday, May 18th is a Scavenger Hunt Day, with Friday, May 19th being our Volunteer Appreciation Day. On this day, we will be hosting an outdoor BBQ, as well as outdoor entertainment and activities.
