(Honolulu)– The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department is pleased to announce that registration is opening on May 1 for the 2026 Junior Lifeguard Program, offering keiki and teens an exciting opportunity to build ocean awareness, water safety skills, and confidence in Hawaiʻi’s marine environment.
The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to keiki ages 11 to 17, providing youth an opportunity to learn directly from the professional lifeguards of the world-renowned Honolulu Ocean Safety Department. Participants learn valuable rescue skills, physical fitness, teamwork, and respect for the ocean. The Junior Lifeguard Program has long served as a positive and rewarding experience for local youth, helping develop leadership, discipline, and a strong appreciation for ocean stewardship.
“We are excited to welcome the next generation of junior lifeguards,” said Chief Kurt Lager, Honolulu Ocean Safety Department. “The Junior Lifeguard Program gives young people the chance to learn lifesaving skills, stay active, and develop confidence while building a deeper understanding of Hawaiʻi’s unique ocean conditions.”
Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Program sessions will be held during the summer of 2026 at select locations across Oʻahu including:
• Ala Moana
